New In Beauty: Antipodes Culture Probiotic Night Recovery Water Cream review

Friday, 30 April 2021

If you've been following my blog for a while now, you'll know that Antipodes are one of my favourite natural and organic skincare brands, so it's always exciting when I receive a new product release from them! Introducing their new Culture Probiotic Night Recovery Water Cream and all the reasons why you should be adding this to your shopping list ASAP.

What Is It?
Antipodes Culture Probiotic Night Recovery Water Cream is a weightless water cream that delivers skin-loving probiotics and all-night hydration. Think of it as a repairing and nourishing nighttime moisturiser.

What Are The Key Ingredients?
This cream has been formulated with an innovative probiotic called Kalibiome AGE which is made up of entirely natural bacteria that's been carefully chosen to help repair and replenish the skin whilst you sleep. Other key ingredients include the ultra-hydrating Hyaluronic Acid and the New Zealand sourced Mamaku Black Fern extract to boost moisture levels even further.

Full INCI is: Aqua (water), glycerine, cetearyl olivate, sorbitan olivate, sodium acrylates copolymer & lecithin, Simmondsia chinensis (jojoba) seed oil, Limnanthes alba (meadowfoam) oil, dehydroacetic acid, benzyl alcohol, glyceryl caprylate, bisabolol, sodium hyaluronate, xanthan gum & lecithin & sclerotium gum & pullulan, Aloe barbadensis (aloe vera) leaf extract, organic, Lactobacillus ferment, mannitol, maltodextrin, sodium citrate, Cyathea medullaris (mamaku) black fern extract, Phormium tenax (harakeke) flax extract, Hibiscus sabdariffa (hibiscus) flower extract, mica, titanium dioxide, iron oxide, manganese violet, Fragrance of Deep Fresh Rose: citral†, citronellol†, geraniol†, d-Limonene†, linalool†.

Which Skin Types Can Use It?
This moisturiser is ideal for Dull, Tired, Stressed and Dehydrated skin types, however, I imagine all skin types will enjoy using it. It's 100% natural, cruelty-free and vegan-friendly.

How Do I Use It?
After cleansing and toning in the evening, apply a small amount all over the face, massaging it in. As it's so hydrating, it's not necessary to use any additional products afterward so it's the last step in your evening skincare routine.

Overall Thoughts
I've really been enjoying using the Antipodes Culture Probiotic Night Recovery Water Cream. I love the super light, weightless feel of this product as I find that so many 'very moisturising' creams are too heavy and sticky for my skin, and this is the exact opposite. It absorbs quickly, yet my skin feels instantly plumped up and smoother, like it's had a big drink!

In the morning, my complexion looks clearer and feels softer. I was initially a little worried that this may be too much moisture for my oily/combination skin type, but it just seems to balance everything out instead, so it's been brilliant to add to my nighttime skincare ritual. If you're already an Antipodes fan, it reminds me a lot of the Baptise Ultra-Hydrating Water Gel and the two combined would be a great fit to keep your skin's moisture levels at their best 24/7.

Ayurvedic Haircare: Saach Organics - 100% Natural, Organic & Cruelty-Free Haircare Review

Wednesday, 21 April 2021

Combining elements of traditional Ayurvedic formulas with organic and cruelty-free ingredients, Saach Organics have succeeded in creating a full range of natural hair care which is sold globally and won multiple awards.

If you're curious about where the name comes from, 'saach' translates as 'truth' in Punjabi, which goes to the core of what the brand is all about by carefully choosing natural ingredients that are good for your skin, hair and the environment.

Saach Organics products are 100% natural, using organically grown or wildcrafted plants and herbs grown in India. Saach Organics products never contain – petrochemicals, harsh sulphates, parabens, urea, propylene glycol, animal ingredients, artificial colours or fragrance. In addition, all products contain no animal ingredients and none of the ingredients or products has ever been tested on animals.

With this in mind, I received a very exciting package from Saach Organics last month with lots of their haircare to try, so grab a cuppa and enjoy this review below.

Saach Organics Shampoo, Conditioner and Shower Gel range

Starting off with the basics first, I tested out the full range of Saach Organics Shampoos. If you're after a strengthening shampoo for weak or fine hair, the Shikakai, Basil and Peppermint Shampoo* (200ml, £11.95) works wonders thanks to a formula that's rich in Basil, Amla, Ritha, Peppermint Oil, Shikakai and Ceramides. For something more aimed at repairing and revitalising damaged hair, try the Tea Tree, Rosemary & Lemon Shampoo* (200ml, £12.95) which also doubles up as an anti-dandruff treatment. Coloured hair? You can use the specially formulated Henna Orange Oil Shampoo* (200ml, £11.95) to moisturise and protect coloured hair from fading. All three shampoos are SLS-free and feel wonderfully refreshing to use due to the Ayurvedic herbs so they're quite 'zingy' on the scalp!

I'll go on to mention Saach Organics' powdered hair treatments in a minute, but for those who prefer a more conventional hair conditioner, you can't wrong with the Avocado, Jojoba Butter & Canola Oil Hair Nourishment Conditioner* (200ml, £11.95) which features a unique blend of Ayurvedic herbs and natural hydrating ingredients to nourish hair from root to tip. It's ideal for all hair types to use.

I also want to give a shout out to the Saach Organics Mint & Rosemary Shower Gel* (200ml, £10.95) because this is one of the most invigorating shower gels I've ever used. If you struggle to wake up in the morning, you need this in your life!

Saach Organics Hair Treatments / Hair Masks

Saach Organics have a special range of Hair Treatments that I feel really give you a proper feeling for their Ayurvedic roots. Each mask offers a different targeted treatment for your hair, for example, the Shikakai Hair Mask* is a nourishing treatment for roots to help stimulate healthy hair growth, whereas the Amla Hair Mask* provides a strengthening and hydrating treatment for weak and dehydrated hair. Coloured hair will enjoy the renewing and protecting qualities of the Neem Hair Mask*, and anyone who suffers from dandruff or hair loss should try the Ayurvedic Hair Mask* to reap the benefits of those carefully chosen herbs and plant actives.

Each hair mask comes in a pure powder format and the full pack (100g) will treat shoulder-length hair. As with any new beauty treatment, you should always perform a patch test 48 hours prior to using it to check for any allergies or skin sensitivities. Ayurvedic herbs are quite potent so I feel that a patch test really should be done as a necessity just in case.

To use these masks, simply open the packet and pour the powder into a non-metallic bowl. Gradually add in some lukewarm water and mix with a wooden spoon until you get the consistency of yoghurt. Try not to breathe in the powder as you're mixing as it can make you sneeze!

Apply the paste all over dry hair and scalp and massage it in. I recommend having a towel around your shoulders and placing one on the floor as the mask paste can stain. Once applied, cover your head in clingfilm and leave for 30-40 minutes. After that, rinse out and shampoo as normal - you may need to do this at least twice to get everything out.

Although messy and time consuming to use, these masks are brilliant for treating their targeted problems and each one left my hair feeling super soft afterwards. Prices from £8.95 per mask.

Saach Organics Natural Hair Colour

Last but not least, Saach Organics are well known and loved for their Natural Hair Colour* (£11.95). Like the masks, these are presented as a purely plant-based powder formula based on Henna and the range contains colours from Golden Blonde to Browns, Burgundy and Black. I've been using these hair colours for years as my go-to henna product of choice so do check out my original review of them here if you're looking for a new product like this to try for yourself.

The Weekend Post: Think a Facial Could Fix Your Skin? Here's What You Need to Know #AD

Sunday, 11 April 2021

A facial is one of the best ways to clear your skin and make it look glowy and fresh. Whether you do it alone, or you prefer the expert hands of a professional, doing a facial is the right way to take care of your skin. But, if it’s your first time doing such a thing, then it’s important to be prepared about the whole experience. So for that reason, here are some amazing tips that will show you how to do it.

Choose the right treatment

There are many different facials out there, and choosing the best one matters the most. In case you’ve never done it before, then be sure to go for regular pore-cleansing treatment. Simply, chances are that your pores are full of sebum and dirt, and these are impossible to clean with commercial skincare products. So before you move to other treatments, make sure to thoroughly cleanse your face first. After that, you can proceed to do other treatments related to your specific skin concerns.

Skip makeup

Wearing makeup during the facial is a big no, so if you’ve already made an appointment, then it’s hugely important to go there bare-faced, without a trace of makeup. An esthetician doesn’t need to go through layers of makeup in order to work on your skin, and since the aim of the treatment is to boost your skin’s wellbeing, there’s really no need to hide imperfections or blemishes at all. Also, it’s not in your best interest to waste the time of the appointment on removing makeup.

Don’t be afraid of some DIY magic

We’re still in the middle of the pandemic, so going to the salon is a bit challenging, which is why having a home facial doesn’t seem like a bad idea. Therefore, if you love all things related to skincare, and you want to try this out, then giving yourself a facial might be a nice way to pamper yourself a bit. There are different types of at-home facials so be sure to choose the one that works for you. Also, rather than forcing extractions, it’s important to be patient and know your limits. Every facial has an order that needs to be followed, so don’t stray from that, and instead, do things as you should.

Be prepared for some ugliness

This might sound frightening, but in reality, it’s all part of a regular process. Extractions can be irritating and therefore, it’s not uncommon for skin to look worse a few days after the treatment. That’s why steaming can help with extractions, but if you experience any post-facial breakouts, then be sure to use antibacterial products, and to stay away from touching and picking at your skin. Also, if you’re doing exfoliation treatment, it’s crucial to avoid direct sunlight and to wear sunscreen every time when you go outside.

Have a good skincare routine at all times

A proper skincare routine will help your skin on a day-to-day basis. Therefore, make sure to take care of your skin in between the treatments. Besides, feel free to take a picture of your products and show it to your facialist. Your esthetician can also give you some useful tips regarding the right products and their application. Not taking care of your skin every day can make your skin appear dry, dehydrated, dull, or saggy, and that’s something you should definitely avoid.

Conclusion

A facial is something you should do, especially if you’re dealing with skin issues such as acne, redness, and early signs of ageing. These tips will help you prepare for a facial treatment, regardless of whether you do it at home or in the salon. Just make sure to follow all the rules and recommendations, and as a result, your skin will look fresh and glowy.

Tried & Tested: Kathleen Natural Facial Ionic Treatment Device review

Friday, 9 April 2021

At-home beauty treatments were already becoming increasingly popular before the pandemic, and now it seems like everyone is using some kind of gadget to keep their skin looking its best in between those coveted facialist appointments!

Like many beauty bloggers who are passionate about skincare, I've tried and tested countless gadgets over the years, and the latest one to come into my possession is the Kathleen Natural Facial Ionic Treatment Device

What Is It?
The Kathleen Natural Facial Ionic Treatment Device is a lightweight, cordless (battery operated) facial treatment device that has combined ionic micro-currents and pulsations which can be used for both Lymphatic Drainage Massage and Facial Lift treatments at home. It's designed to work in conjunction with your favourite toners, serums and essences to enhance the penetration of those formulas.

Does It Hurt?
No, it's painless and non-invasive. You may feel a slight tingling if you have thin or older skin.

What Does It Do?
The device features a stainless steel circular head which is placed on different areas of the face and neck that you want to treat. Once switched on, the ionic micro-current technology begins to work as the current passes through the muscle, allowing active ingredients in your serums and essences to penetrate deeper. It also helps to tighten and smooth the skin over time and stimulates healthy collagen production.

Who Can Use It?
It's suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin.

How Do I Use It?
Cleanse and dry your face first before beginning any of these treatments.

For a Lymphatic Drainage Massage: generously use a toner mist all over the face and then switch the button to the + setting on the device. Position the treatment head onto the skin and gently glide slowly towards the lymph nodes on one side and then repeat the process on the other side, ensuring that you're gliding in upwards and outwards positions.

For a Facelift Treatment: apply your essence or serum to the area that you wish to treat. Turn the device on to - setting, then place the treatment head onto the skin, lift it with the face muscle and hold for 2-3 seconds. Repeat three times in the same area before moving onto the next.

For more info, visit Kathleen Natural.

Overall Thoughts?
I've enjoyed using the Kathleen Natural Facial Ionic Treatment Device because it's easy to operate with simple settings and instructions, yet I feel it has still been making a difference to the firmness of my skin. The Lymphatic Drainage setting is brilliant for reducing puffiness (especially as we enter allergy season!), but this device is most useful in my opinion, for the Facelift Treatment as you can also target the neck, jawline and forehead etc so it's wonderfully versatile.

It's worth mentioning of course that at-home treatment devices aren't as powerful as the devices which are used in professional salons by facialists. However, this device is an affordable way to introduce some of the benefits of ionic microcurrent technology into your skincare routine to give it a really good boost in the comfort of your own home, and it would work particularly well in-between your facialist appointments.

Introducing: Chameleon Candles - Soy Wax Melts & Candles from Brighton, UK #ShopSmall

Tuesday, 6 April 2021

With an Artic blast currently sweeping across the country, there's no better time to wrap up warm on the sofa with a cuppa and Netflix, so why not enjoy some gorgeous home fragrance scents at the same time?

I was recently introduced to Chameleon Candles via Instagram (which coincidentally is where I seem to be discovering so many amazing small businesses at the moment!) by the founder Hani who got in touch with me to ask if I'd like to try out some of his products. Hani started to learn how to make candles, wax melts and stop motion animation when the pandemic began last year, as a way to find some positivity, creativity and inner peace in a world that was quickly being engulfed by panic, negativity and uncertanity.

He named his small business Chameleon Candles as chameleons are well known for their ability to change their colour to adapt to whatever environment they're in, which suited Hani perfectly as he takes inspiration from nature and the changing seasons, as well as being able to adapt his products to produce candles and wax melts of all sizes, shapes and scents.

Hani very kindly sent me a selection of his amazing products to try and I'm thrilled to share them with you all below! Everything is handmade and poured in small batches in Brighton from natural plant-based wax for a clean burn.

Chameleon Candles Teddy Bear 3D Wax Melts* (box of 4, £11.95, link)

These adorable 3D Teddy Bear Wax Melts are some of the cutest products that I've ever been sent - they are almost too cute to actually use! Crafted from a blend of high quality, vegan-friendly plant-based wax and fragrance oils, each teddy bear weighs 50g so these will last a good while in your oil burner.

In the box of four, you can select the fragrances that you'd like from an enticing list which includes Velvet Rose & Oud, Honey, Avocado Mint, Ruby Jasmine, Kir Royale and more. I was sent two beautiful teddies in Grapefruit & Lemon (very uplifting and citrusy) and Blackberry Jam (fruity and sweet). These really do pack a punch in the fragrance department and would make a beautiful gift for someone special.

Chameleon Candles Roses 3D Wax Melts (box of 10, £10.95, link) and Teddy Bear Wax Melts (box of 6, £4.45, link)

If you are as in love with rose scents as I am, you will of course love these 3D Rose Wax Melts which have a classic and timeless rose fragrance, and for those who are a budget or just want to try something out from Chameleon Candles, the Teddy Bear Wax Melts are a great affordable option where you try four different scents of your choice. The Honey and Oud scents are highly recommended!

Chameleon Candles Velvet Rose & Oud Medium Candle* (230g, £17.95, link)

Chameleon Candles truly excel at creating luxurious, clean-burning candles and they have a wide range of scents available, many of which are similar to popular women's fragrances. This Velvet Rose & Oud Candle is comparable to the much-loved fragrance of the same name by Jo Malone and features rich and textured notes of smoky Oud wood with sweet and creamy Praline, and spikes of spicy Clove. It's warm and inviting so perfect for lounge areas when you have guests over in the future, or for creating a sophisticated and cosy ambience for the evening.

Beautifully presented with a dark wooden lid that doubles up as a coaster/stand and bearing the bronze wax seal logo of Chameleon Candles.

Feb & March Empties: Products I've Used Up (+ How To Recycle Your Beauty Empties)

Saturday, 3 April 2021

Last month, I only had two empties so I've put them together for a better selection for you to read this time around! Here's everything that I've used up over the past two months and my thoughts about whether I'll be repurchasing them again or not.

Evolve Organic Beauty Radiant Glow Mask* (reviewed here)
This is a sticky and slightly messy face mask to use (the consistency and scent is similar to chocolate brownie batter!), but it does an amazing job of brightening and exfoliating my skin. You also get a lot more applications from the jar than you might imagine. Repurchase? On my list.

Antipodes Halo Skin-Brightening Facial Mud Mask* (reviewed here)
I've gone through at least three or four jars of this over the years and I still love it. If you're looking for a brightening clay-based face mask, definitely give it a go! Repurchase? Will do once I've used up some other masks.

Weleda Citrus Deodorant* (reviewed here)
As WFH life has continued, I've enjoyed using up another bottle of Weleda Citrus Deodorant to keep me smelling fresh and feeling uplifted. This isn't a heavy-duty natural deodorant so use something else if you're out and about doing your essential errands, but it's perfect for home use or layering with other deos. Repurchase? Yes.

Antipodes Apostle Skin-Brightening Serum* (reviewed here)
You can tell we're coming out of Winter with the number of brightening products I've been using in my skincare routine, can't you?! Antipodes Apostle Skin-Brightening Serum is suitable for all skin types and really helps my skin to look more alive again. Repurchase? Definitely.

Fushi BioVedic Radiance Face Oil* (reviewed here)
I'm pretty sure this is the third bottle I've used up and it just works so well over the top of any brand of serum to finish up my evening skincare. It's lightweight and easily absorbed so I imagine most people will love it as much as I do. I find that it worked particularly well when used in conjunction with the Antipodes Apostle Serum above. Repurchase? Will do once I've used up some other face oils.

Madara Infusion Vert Body Cream* (reviewed here)
My skin gets so dry during Winter so it's no surprise to see another tube of the amazing Infusion Vert Body Cream from Madara in my Empties round-up this month. It's a seriously luxurious and rich body moisturiser that keeps my skin wonderfully hydrated and it smells gorgeous too - what more could you ask for?!

P.S - How To Recycle Your Beauty Empties!

  • All of the glass and easy-to-recycle plastic PET empties will be put into my council's blue bin kerbside recycling scheme, but for the harder-to-recycle stuff, I will be:-
  • Recycling the pumps, lids and atomisers with Neal's Yard Remedies - more info at the bottom of their website here.
  • Recycling any other products that my local council doesn't accept at The Body Shop, L'Occitane or with Garnier's Terracycle partnership - more info here.

The Weekend Post: How to Get the Engagement Ring You Really Want #AD

Friday, 2 April 2021

Choosing the right engagement ring is no easy task. It is the ring you will be wearing for the rest of your life. That’s why you need to ensure that you absolutely love it right off the bat. But making sure that you get just the right ring can be a bit tricky.

That’s why it is best to approach this matter carefully, so as not to come off too controlling or crazy. Help your significant other make the best choice by tactically approaching this matter and offering some (not-so-subtle) hints.

Research your options together

One of the best ways to ensure that you get the engagement ring you’ve always wanted is to simply show it to your partner. But don’t just simply show them the ring you’ve already chosen. Instead, talk to your partner and see if they would be interested in doing some joint research. That way you can both explore various options out there, while you will get the opportunity to drop hints whenever you come across something you like. Since you are starting your life together, you can also read this cost guide and settle on a budget you both feel comfortable with. This way both of you will get a better picture of what’s out there and what are your options when it comes to choosing the right engagement ring.

Show pictures of your preferred style

On the other hand, if you don’t want to go with such a direct approach, you can always take a more subtle route. For instance, if you’ve already talked about the proposal and you know that it is coming, you can start putting together a proposal scrapbook. Here, you can print out various pictures of engagement rings that fit your style. Then, simply leave your scrapbook somewhere where your partner will surely find it a hope that they take the hint. Alternatively, you can always “accidentally” stay logged in on Pinterest on your joint computer, right on the page where you pinned all the engagement rings you really like.

Ask a friend to help you out

The next option is to rely on either your or their best friend. Talk to a friend you know will be willing to help both of you out and ask them for a bit of help. You can either suggest to your partner to ask the friend in question if they ever need help. Or you can simply ask your friend to get involved directly and simply offer help to your partner. Chances are neither of them will deny.

Learn to trust your partner

In the end, we can sometimes be a bit too controlling without even realizing it. Since your partner obviously loves you, chances are that they know more about you than you may think. So, it may be a good idea to simply let go and allow your partner to surprise you. Tell your partner that the ball is entirely in their court when it comes to choosing the right engagement ring. Let go of any control and simply allow yourself to be surprised. Chances are you’ll end up loving the ring you receive even more than the one you might have picked out yourself.

Engagements are beautiful but people sometimes make them into a bigger deal than they actually are. If you end up stressing too much about it you can easily forget to enjoy this wonderful part of your life. So, maybe just try to relax and let go and trust us, everything will turn out great in the end.

March Beauty Favourites

Thursday, 1 April 2021

It's time for a quick round-up of my March Beauty Favourites! This little edit features new green beauty products from Evolve Organic Beauty, The English Mineral Makeup Company, Wilkinson Sword and Green People. Let's jump straight in!

Evolve Organic Beauty Deep Clean Micellar Water* (190ml, £20, link)

First up, I'm pleased to introduce this brand new release from one of my favourite British green beauty brands, Evolve. Their Deep Clean Micellar Water is just the most beautiful refreshing cleanser to reach for at the end of the day when you want to take all of your makeup off. It's made from 100% natural ingredients, is cruelty-free, vegan-friendly and suitable for all skin types to use, including sensitive, as it's gentle on the skin.

Packed full of Moringa Peptides to remove microparticles of pollution, there's also Hyaluronic Acid to lock in moisture so your skin won't be left feeling stripped afterwards and Organic Pomegranate which is well known for its high level of antioxidants to further protect and hydrate your complexion.

This cleanser doubles up as a toner as well, so it's a convenient 2-in-1 product to use and super easy to incorporate into your evening skincare routine. I also love the glass packaging and don't forget that you can recycle the pump via TerraCycle

The English Mineral Makeup Company Lip Massive Moisture Drench in Barely Peony* (15g, £28, link)

The perfect new lip product for Spring, I'm thrilled that The English Mineral Makeup Company has launched this brilliant Lip Massive Moisture Drench, and if you're a fan of organic, vegan and clean makeup, you'll love this as much as I do!

I always find that my lips are still feeling a bit chapped and dry at this time of the year, so this skincare-meets-makeup hybrid is the ideal lip product to keep in your handbag for those essential touch-ups throughout the day. With an intensely hydrating formula that features Jojoba Wax, Calendula Oil, Sea Buckthorn Oil, Vitamin E, Hemp Oil, Rosehip Oil, Apricot Oil and Shea Butter, this luxury lip treat lives up to its namesake by literally drenching lips in moisture and minimising the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles for a smoother pout.

You can pick this up in a colour-free version, as well as the beautiful Barely Peony (shown above) for a pretty pink tint. Sustainably packaged in a glass jar and aluminium lid so it's plastic-free.

Wilkinson Sword Xtreme 3 Beauty Eco-Green* (12 pack, £11.99, link)

As one of the best-selling brands of razors across the UK and Europe, it's great to see Wilkinson Sword bringing out a more eco-friendly and sustainable razor option for women.

Named the Xtreme 3 Beauty Eco-Green, this new razor has a recyclable handle that is also made from 95% recycled plastic, and they have ditched the traditional plastic packaging for a new card box FSC certified design which is made from over 90% recycled paper.

Not only is it better for the environment, but it's kinder to skin too with two lubricating strips of Aloe Vera and Vitamin E, sandwiched between three blades to protect against irritation for a comfortable smooth shave. The uniquely designed handle has an inbuilt grip and the razor is designed to be flexible so it moves with the natural contours of your body - very clever!

Green People All Paws Cleansing Shampoo in Wild Mint for Dogs* (200ml, £14, link)

The last product that I wanted to mention is from the new range of pet grooming care from Green People which is the UK's first certified organic range for pets. Also certified organic and vegan-friendly, they have created two All Paws Cleansing Shampoos (a fragrance-free and a Wild Mint) just for your four-legged-friend!

I love this Wild Mint version which is a lovely, uplifting and refreshing blend of Mint and Eucalyptus. It's easy to use and despite being free from SLS, it lathers up well, leaves my dog's fur clean and soft afterwards, and of course, smelling much nicer!
