Getting your coffee fix has never been so in vogue, but I'm not talking about drinking it. It's time to head into the bathroom and get messy!
Coffee body scrubs are a great way to exfoliate your skin as ground up coffee seems to be just the right texture to buff away all of those dull, dead skin cells, so you can say a big hello to all that lovely glowing skin underneath. It doesn't feel as rough as sugar or salt scrubs, so they're a good one to try if you have sensitive skin. There are a hell of a lot of claims attached to coffee scrubbing, but the general idea behind it is that it can help to reduce the appearance of cellulite and stretch marks, promote cell rejuvenation, stimulate blood flow, and of course give you a great, all over exfoliation.
There are a lot of brands doing them nowadays, and the most popular ones offer a variety of little 'extras' (including different scents/flavours) which are blended with the coffee scrub, so you can reap more benefits from a combination of different ingredients. I've tried out two of the bestsellers on the market to give you an idea of what they're like.
Scrub Love Coffee Body Scrub in Mint Temptation* (200ml, £12.95, link)
Scrub Love have three variants that you can try; an original, straight up coffee scrub, one blended with Mint, and one mixed with Coconut. They come in a cute re-sealable polka dot pouch which I think is a great idea in the bathroom as you don't have to worry about slippery glass jars breaking or anything like that. Their scrubs are 100% natural and are mainly made from organic and Rainforest Alliance certified) Robusta Coffee grounds. I tried out Mint Temptation which has added Sweet Almond Oil, Pink Himalayan Rock Salt, Sweet Orange Oil, Peppermint Oil, Tea Tree Oil, Argan Oil, Aloe Vera and Vitamin C.
Upon opening the pouch, my nose was greeted with the most wonderful combination of rich roasted coffee and an intense hit of peppermint. I slapped it on and my skin felt wonderfully cool and tingly whilst I was scrubbing away - definitely one to try when it's hot outside! Rinsing it off was a bit of a messy experience, I won't lie, but the results were definitely worth it as my skin was left silky soft and it felt moisturised too. My wobbly bits felt much smoother and looked less bumpy as well.
Bean Body Coffee Bean Scrub in Coconut* (220g, £14.95, link)
Bean Body is a few pounds more expensive than Scrub Love, but you get more product in the bag and it has more organic and oil based ingredients. Plus it's available in a wider range of 'flavours', including Mandarin, Coco Berry, Peppermint, Vanilla and Manuka Honey. Bean Body's scrubs are also 100% natural and use Rainforest Alliance certified Robusta Coffee beans, whilst adding in organic cold-pressed Coconut Oil, Himalayan Pink Rock Salt, Demerara Sugar, Organic Cacao, Almond Oil, Jojoba Oil, Hyaluronic Acid and Vitamin E.
I decided to test out Bean Body's Coffee Scrub in Coconut and oh my - the scent of this is incredible! If you like sweet scents, you'll love this. It's like some kind of heavenly Italian dessert! I applied this all over dry skin and then hopped into the shower to scrub and wash it off. I have to say that my skin felt much softer and more hydrated using this one which is probably due to the extra oils in the blend (my skin always likes anything with coconut oil in it), so if you have very dry skin, this is the one to go for.
My overall thoughts?
I can totally see why so many people have been raving about coffee body scrubs now - they do such a fantastic job of gently exfoliating everything and making your skin feel as soft as a baby's bum! As mentioned earlier, it is a messy experience as the coffee grounds do get absolutely everywhere in your bathroom, so take care when you're rinsing them all away. I love that it's a completely natural product too and that it's so effective. Give one a go!

I didn't think they would do much at first as I've always been used to sugar and salt based scrubs, but was pleasantly surprised by how effective these are!
