We may be approaching the end of August, but the sun's still shining and there are apparently more heatwaves on the way! Here are five 'summery' fragrances that will happily take you into Autumn and beyond, including a mix of some old classics and shiny new releases.
Stella McCartney POP Eau De Parfum* (30ml for £42 - 100ml for £74, link)
Launched last month, Stella McCartney's new fragrance, POP, is for anyone who loves bold, sweet and floral perfumes. The two dominant notes in this unique blend are Tuberose (a firm favourite of mine) which gives it that gorgeous crisp and fresh floral scent, and Sandalwood which helps to balance out the sweetness slightly, and adds some warmth to the mix.
Although it's undeniably a very girly/feminine fragrance (the ad campaign is aimed at young, strong women), the sweet element of POP isn't cloying as it's more sophisticated in the blend, so I think this can appeal to women of all ages who are looking for a new fragrance to wear. And how stunning is that bottle?!
SJP NYC Eau De Parfum* (100ml, £42, link) & Sarah Jessica Parker Lovely Eau De Parfum* (30ml, £19.99, link)
As far as celebrity fragrances go, Sarah Jessica Parker's range is by far the one that I reach for the most often. SJP released a new scent called NYC earlier this Summer which is a fun, fruity floral perfume that's as playful as the wonderfully OTT bottle! Top notes include Wild Red Strawberries, Italian Bergamot and White Osmanthus, middle notes contain Rose Damascus, Honeysuckle and Mimosa, and there are base notes of Sandalwood, Vanilla, Musk and Rum. This is a great scent to wear for a night out!
If you want something that's more mature and classic, SJP's original Lovely fragrance has been a bestseller for a decade now and quite simply is a 'lovely' perfume housed in a pretty, vintage-inspired bottle. Top notes of Lavender, Mandarin and Bergamot are blended with middle notes of Orchid, Patchouli and White Pepper, alongside base notes of White Amber, Musk and Cedar.
Gucci Bamboo Eau De Toilette* (50ml, £55, link)
I've often found many of Gucci's fragrances to be too rich and heavy for me (my mum is big fan though so I would always try out hers), so I was very surprised when I discovered how much lighter and fresher their new Bamboo scent was.
This is a more of a sheer, light floral with a woody undertone - notes include Sicilian Bergamot, Mandarin, Pear, Orange Blossom, Ylang Ylang, Sandalwood, Amber, Tahitian Vanilla and White Musk. It may sound cliched, but I find that this fragrance gives me a bit of a confidence boost whenever I wear it and I always receive compliments about it when I do. I'm in love with the beautiful mulit-faceted bottle as well which instantly adds a touch of designer class to my dressing table.
Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue Pour Femme Eau De Toilette* (50ml, £50, link) & Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue Pour Homme Eau De Toilette* (from £39, link)
Now for a nostalgic trip to my teenage years - D&G's Light Blue was one of the first designer perfumes that I asked for as a birthday present and it was my signature scent for such a long time. I haven't worn it for years, and I was shocked to find out that this year celebrates the 15th anniversary of Light Blue! This fragrance has long been a classic in the beauty world and if you've never tried it, you're missing out. It's a clean, fresh, uplifting, fruity floral that reminds me of holidays in the sun. Notes include Sicilian Cedar, Apple, Bamboo, Jasmine and Rose. It smells exactly like I remembered and just as good today as it was back then!
Not forgetting the men, D&G Light Blue's Pour Homme, also celebrates a 10th anniversary this year and is described as an 'energising Juniper and Bergamot blend with Rosemary entwined with Incense, Musk Wood and Oak". Maybe one to pick up as a gift if you have a special fella in your life?
What's your current favourite fragrance?
