Mid-Week Treats: 6 Products For A Spring Pamper At Home

Wednesday, 27 April 2016

If the crazy weather has been bumming you out this week, try re-creating that feeling of Spring at home in your bathroom with these pampering treats, many of which are brand new releases.

The Light but Nourishing Body Lotion - Hempz Exotic Green Tea & Asian Pear Herbal Body Moisturizer* (500ml, £12.98, link)
Throughout Winter, I mainly stick to really thick body butters, but as the days start to get warmer I find myself gravitating towards lighter lotions. This one from American brand Hempz, comes in a huge bottle with a handy pump, and it works a treat. The vegan-friendly, paraben-free formula is enriched with natural Hemp Seed Oil which is renowned for its moisturizing qualities and it keeps my dry skin happily hydrated all day. I love the fresh scent of the Green Tea & Asian Pear too! Available in the UK from Sallys, in stores and online.

The New Lip Balm -  Bee Good Lime Blossom & Honey Lip Balm* (10g, £4.75, link)
Bee Good released a brand new lip balm last month which was inspired by fellow beauty blogger Aarti Jonas's entry who was the runner-up in last year's Great British Lip Balm competition. Her creation uses Bee Good's well known British beeswax with Shea Butter, Cocoa Seed Butter, Borage Oil and Echium Oil to replenish and protect dry lips. The Lime Blossom & Honey flavour is subtle but lovely and zesty - perfect for Spring handbags!

Try A New Gentle Cleanser - GallinĂ©e La Culture Foaming Facial Cleanser* (120ml, £14, link)
Spring is a great time to shake up your skincare routine and perhaps take out and incorporate some different products into it. For me, this usually means switching from my winter friendly cream cleansers to lighter gel based ones, especially in the morning. As a general rule, I've stay away from foaming cleansers because of my past teenage experience with harsh, SLS based ones that stripped my skin. Luckily, the new wave of foaming cleansers from natural brands are SLS-free and much more gentle. I've been loving this one from new French brand, GallinĂ©e, who are a really interesting company with a relatively unique take on skincare and skin health.

They advocate using formulas composed of prebiotics, probiotics and post-biotic complexes (such as Lactic Acid) to support the microbiome (i.e the natural bacteria ecosystem that protects the skin), instead of using ingredients that upset it.

My understanding (and probable oversimplification) is that it works in a similar way to consuming Yakult to feeding the good bacteria in the gut, thus if you use a cleanser with good bacteria/cultures, it works in harmony with the friendly, supportive bacteria on your skin instead of against it.Their Foaming Facial Cleanser is free from SLS, soap, parabens, mineral oil, microbeads, silicones etc and is made from 98% naturally derived ingredients that balance the pH balance. I've found it to be very gentle but effective, and it leaves my skin feeling clean, smooth and looking clearer without any dryness. A brand to definitely look into.
Switch to an Organic Shaving Gel - Conscious Skincare Fuzz Off Shave Gel* (100ml, £14.99, link)
If you're looking for an eco-friendly shaving gel, check out Conscious Skincare's new organic Fuzz Off Shave Gel which is suitable for all skin types. This shave gel is packed full of beneficial natural ingredients which allow you to get a really good clean and close shave, but with minimal skin irritation as it feel's lovely and soothing when you use it. And of course ignore the 'Man' tag - this product is happily unisex and just as good for using on your legs as it is on your fella's face.

Crack Open a New Body Scrub - Superdrug Naturals Mango & Papaya Vitamin C Boost Body Scrub* (200ml, £4.99, link)
The easiest way to soften up dry skin that's been hidden away under layers for the past couple of months is to use a body scrub, but don't go straight for the fierce sugar scrubs just yet as your skin might not be ready to handle them. Instead, choose a scrub that's less hardcore like this one from Superdrug's own brand Naturals range. It uses Apricot Seeds to gently remove dead skin cells and smells fabulously fruity to get you in the mood for warmer months.

Use a Fruity Scented Hand Soap - Bomb Cosmetics What A Melon Soap* (100g, £2.49, link)
Another simple way to invite Spring into your bathroom or kitchen is to pick up a colourful fruity scented soap. Bomb Cosmetics have lots of different flavours to suit everyone's tastes and I currently have this slab of What A Melon Soap sitting in a dish next to my bathroom sink. It smells amazing and uplifting which is just what I need to be greeted with first thing in the morning!

  1. I'm trying the cleanser just now. It's been a long time since I've tried a foaming cleanser and I'm enjoying it.

    1. Same, I haven't used a foaming one in years! This one is completely different to any other that I've tried x

  2. How well does the shaving gel lather. I tried the Dr Bronners shaving gel and it did nothing for me

    1. It's very similar to the Dr Bronners Shaving Gel in terms of lathering as it's also SLS and sulfates free, so will probably give you the same results as that one. If I come across any natural lathering ones in the future I'll let you know :)
