Earlier this year, I was introduced to Claudia Louch's High Definition Liquid Foundation which quickly became one of my absolute favourite high-def foundations. I now have three more of her high-end end makeup products gracing my vanity desk so it's time that I posted a review on them.
Claudia Louch Mousse Foundation in N4 Creamy Beige* (30ml, £52.50, link)
Yes, you did read that right - the price of this foundation is an eye-watering £52.50 (yikes!), which makes it one of the most expensive foundations that I've ever had the pleasure of testing out. The price is the same as Claudia's High Definition Liquid Foundation so I was curious to see how this new mousse formula would fare.
After trying it out for over a month, I've discovered that I have something of a love/hate relationship with it. I love the squeezy bottle that ensures that you never waste any product as you can squeeze a really tiny amount out if you want to and I love how wonderfully lightweight this feels on my skin - it's like it's barely there. It gives a great light-medium coverage with a silky smooth, semi-matte finish, and I found that it stayed put all day without fading, even when I didn't use a primer underneath. The shade N4 Creamy Beige is a perfect match for my skintone too.
However, I found that this foundation has a bad habit of clinging to any dry patches that you may have, and as I have oily/combination skin, this was something of a bugbare. On the oiler parts of my face, this looked and stayed looking amazing, but on the more combination/drier parts of my face, it really clung to them and looked terribly flaky by the end of the day. I tried to remedy this by applying extra moisturiser and primer to the drier areas which helped for about the first hour or so, but ultimately this foundation just doesn't like any dry patches! Another more aesthetic negative is that the packaging feels very basic and cheap - definitely not something that I would associate with a £50+ foundation.
Pros: Lightweight barely there feeling, great light-medium coverage, stays put all day, easy to apply squeezy bottle.
Cons: Hella expensive, not recommended for dry skin or skin that has dry patches, very basic non-luxury packaging, only available in 6 shades.
Claudia Louch Intense Lash Mascara in Black* (£23, link)
Good high-end natural based mascaras can be difficult to find, but happily I had a lot more success with this than I did with the mousse foundation above. Claudia Louch's Intense Lash Mascara is 94% natural, allergy tested and free from fragrances and harsh chemicals such as parabens so it's perfect for those who have sensitive eyes or wear contact lenses. The formula features Carnauba Wax and Vitamins A, C and E to nourish lashes whilst you wear it. It's also water resistant and I found that it more than held this claim by not smudging or flaking all day, even when I got caught in the rain.
I also love the pigmentation and the slightly glossy finish that it delivers, plus it gave my lashes a good lengthening and volumising look whilst still remaining natural and not over the top. The brush is made of rubbery flexi-plastic which is great for coating even the tiniest of your lashes, but it may be a little difficult to work with for makeup beginners. I'm not sure whether it's worth for the price tag just yet as I need to try it out some more, but it definitely performs very well so far.

Pros: Great pigmentation, water resistant, didn't smudge or flake all day, good lengthening and volumising action.
Cons: Brush can be a little tricky to work with at first, expensive.
Claudia Louch Concealer Trio in C25 Warm Front* (£35, link)
This Concealer Trio houses three different yellow based shades so that you can mix and match your own perfect concealer. You can also use the lighter shade for under the eyes to conceal dark circles and brighten things up, whilst the other two shades can be used for general spot concealing to cover up blemishes and to even out skin tone.
I've been using this a lot lately and have found it to be a very useful addition to my makeup bag, especially for travelling as you can use this for everything instead of packing three different concealers. I've used it under my eyes, where it doesn't crease and stays put all day, and it's also fantastic for covering blemishes. The formula feels very waxy at first and definitely needs to be warmed up slightly before applying so best used with fingers first, though you can use a brush afterwards to blend onto the skin. The concealers are very buildable so you can achieve light through to medium-full coverage easily. If you can find a trio to suit your skintone, then this would be an excellent, more natural alternative to the likes of Bobbi Brown and Laura Mercier.
Cons: Need to be warmed up otherwise feel very waxy, limited shade range, expensive.
Have you tried any of these Claudia Louch products?
I've never heard of this brand but bloody hell it's expensive! Judging from your reviews though it doesn't really seem like it's worth the money which is a shame. It's nice that it's more a natural option though xx

I love high-end makeup but there are so many great brands on the highstreet which deliver almost identical results so it's hard to justify the pricetags sometimes! The concealer trio & mascara are great but I doubt I would repurchase them because of the cost x
DeleteI've not heard of the brand either. I always find that the more high-end/expensive brands have a smaller shade range than cheaper/high street products which is a shame as it can be hard to find the right product for you!
ReplyDeleteIt's so annoying isn't it - you'd think they'd cater for everyone :(
