I was recently invited to visit the brand new Charlotte Tilbury counter which has opened up in Selfridges in Manchester's Trafford Centre.
As you may expect from any high end and luxury brand, the new Charlotte Tilbury counter was laid out beautifully with lots of lit up images and plenty of shiny gold mirrored fixtures and displays. And of course, the full range of products are available so you can swatch away to your heart's content!
I was greeted by one of the many friendly staff members who happily showed me around the large counter and introduced me to some of Charlotte Tilbury's bestsellers.
At the front of the counter, there is a big display dedicated to the 'magic three'; i.e the three products which Charlotte recommends if you're lusting after 'glowing, goddess like skin'. These are the Goddess Skin Clay Mask, a new hydrating clay mask; Magic Cream, the 20 years in the making anti-aging day cream with SPF 15, and the Wonderglow Skin Illuminator, a tinted primer, beauty flash-esque, soft focus diffuser for brighter skin.
Next up, I had a good look at Charlotte Tilbury's face make-up range which includes an Airbrush Flawless Finish Perfecting Micro-Powder, an amazing concealer pen called The Retoucher (think YSL Touche Eclat but even better IMO!), an equally amazing Light Wonder Foundation with SPF 15 (very glowy and hydrating, lasts up to 18 hours and gives great coverage yet looks very natural), and her range of expert make-up brushes.
In the middle of the counter is a large display for the new vintage inspired collaboration with legendary British fashion photographer, Norman Parkinson. This limited edition collection is very summer friendly and features a new Filmstar Bronze & Glow duo kit in a cream format, two new Matte Revolution Lipsticks, a new highlighter and blusher, and three new washbags / make-up bags.
One of my favourite products from Charlotte Tilbury are her new Eyes To Mesmerise cream eye colours (check out my previous review of 'Veruschka' here) so I was thrilled to see the whole range and ended up with them all swatched on the back of my hand! All of the shades are absolutely stunning.
As part of the visit, I was treated to a complimentary 'Tilbury Transformation' where one of their expert make-up artists will give you a makeover. You can either choose from one of the 10 looks (see first photo) or you can let the make-up artist choose one for you based on your personal preferences. There are also other transformations and make-up lessons they can do such as how to achieve the perfect cat eye, how to do contouring and specialised wedding and prom make-up looks. Prices are between £35-£55 depending on what you choose, and the cost is redeemable against purchases.
I was going out for a friend's birthday dinner that evening, so I opted for the 'Rock Chick' look (products used above) which focused on a killer smokey eye and a classic nude lip. My make-up artist was the wonderful Juan Lopez (below) who was super chatty and friendly. He was of course very knowledge about all of the products and totally put me at ease, especially when a group of shoppers stopped to watch me have the makeover done!
Juan gave me lots of key make-up application tips such as:-
- Only apply a pea sized amount of foundation at a time and apply it only to the areas that really need it. Anything else can be covered with a dab of concealer over the top.
- He advocates using your fingers to apply high end liquid foundation as your brushes and sponges will soak up too much product, so by using your fingers, your high end foundation will go further as you'll use a lot less each time.
- Use small brushes for everything to give a more precise and flawless finish.
- When applying powder bronzer or blush, always shake off the excess on the back of your hand before touching your face so you don't apply too much.
I loved the completed look, especially my eyes which you can see below. So pretty!
I also loved the lipstick that Juan used on me, and decided to purchase it after the event. It's one of the K.I.S.S.I.N.G Lipsticks in the shade Nude Kate which is the perfect nude shade. Huge thanks again to Juan and the Charlotte Tilbury team at Selfridges Trafford Centre!
