When I heard that Real Techniques had released two makeup palettes, I was excited like everyone else. So I was even more excited when I found out that I'd won one from the lovely Nic (who writes Strawberry Blonde) in her blog giveaway!
I wasn't really sure what to expect from Real Techniques first venture into makeup. I've been enamoured with their incredible brushes since they came out and rarely use anything else these days, but actual makeup is an all together different ball game! It seems like they're testing out the waters with their first two palettes though. The packaging is very bulky, constructed out of cardboard and feels generally very cheap which is a shame. But the contents are what really matter and they're pretty damn good.
The Modern Natural Makeup Kit palette has 4 eyeshadows, a gel eyeliner, blush, a cream highlighter and 2 mini lip glosses. It's a complete neutral/natural themed look and the Pixiwoo girls have of course done a handy online tutorial to show you how to get the best out of it.
There are no names listed in the actual palette, only online, so I'll briefly list what's what below:-
Dark Chocolate (Cream Eyeliner)
A rich, warm chocolate brown. Glides on smoothly without any dragging and makes a great change if you're used to wearing black all the time.
Sunset (Blusher)
Classic matte peachy pink. Lovely everyday shade.
Champagne (Cream Highlighter)
Light champagne with finely milled gold shimmer. Gorgeous light and creamy formula, super easy to blend and looks amazing on.
Nectar & Copperheard (Lipglosses)
Very sheer with a touch of shimmer, one pink, one golden peach. I found these very disappointing and wasn't all that keen on the overly chemical taste.
Quicksand (Eyeshadow)
Pale gold highlighter shade. Perfect for using as a base or for the inner corner to brighten up the eyes.
Gold Metal (Eyeshadow)
Rich metallic gold. Amazing pigmentation, so beautiful!
Caramel Mocha (Eyeshadow)
Warm matte brown. Great pigmentation again and very easy to work with.
Nightshade (Eyeshadow)
Gorgeous satin taupe shimmer. This one really pops over a primer.
Overall, this is an excellent starter palette to pick up or for anyone who just loves neutral shades. The eyeshadows are definitely worth it on they're own (definitely comparable in quality to MAC and Urban Decay), and I can't wait to depot everything into my Z-Palette!
The Real Techniques Modern Natural Makeup Kit Palette is available whilst stocks last from realtechniques.com for around £14.
