My Favourite Winter Lip Colours

Monday, 23 December 2013

This has been the first Autumn/Winter where I've really gone all out and experimented with lots of different lip colours.  I'm certainly not the bravest or most confident person though, so I wanted to do a post on the lip products which have helped to ease me out of my usually neutral- coloured comfort zone and into the more berry hued, darker pinks and red shades typically associated with this season.

From top to bottom:-

B. Brilliant Rich Colour Lip Gloss in Morello*
Starting with the most daring of the lot, this liquid lipstick/lipgloss hybrid from Superdrug's B make-up range is a vivid and richly pigmented berry plum with blue and pink undertones.  Being a gloss, it delivers lots of shine, though I tend to tone it down a notch and blot it slightly before venturing out.  If you're braver than me, it makes an incredible statement lip.

Laura Mercier Creme Lip Colour in Bing Cherry*
Bing Cherry holds some cult status in the beauty world, and it's certainly worth the hype in my humble opinion.  This is the red lipstick that suits virtually everyone due to its perfect balance of blue, pink and brown undertones, and I've seen it look stunning on so many different skintones.  Also if you haven't tried the Creme Lip Colours from Laura Mercier then you're missing out - the formulas are so moisturising making them a great choice for winter.

Revlon Lip Butter in Berry Smoothie
I'm still a big fan of the Revlon Lip Butters and love Berry Smoothie - a pretty medium pink with a slight blue-toned berry hue.  Easy to wear for casual everyday looks.

Revlon Lip Butter in Candy Apple
If you want a festive red shade, then you really can't go wrong with Candy Apple.  It's a very wearable warm-toned red with a forgiving, sheer formula, you can apply one slick for a good wash of colour, or two for a more solid, opaque look.

Collection Lip Definer in Damson
A recent new addition to my make-up stash has been this lip liner from Collection.  Damson is a dark burgundy-berry shade that has a matte, long lasting finish.  For £2.99 this is perfect if you're craving a seasonal lip purchase but are sticking to a budget.

Essential Care Lipstick in Fig Fondant*
Well there had to be a neutralish colour in there somewhere!  I love Essential Care's organic lipsticks and Fig Fondant is an easy to wear warm pink with brown undertones.  I often reach for this if I want to go for a strong smokey-eye look and keep my lips simple but chic.

Revlon Lip Butter in Sugar Plum
Sugar Plum is a pretty, sheer berry shade with a light sprinkling of shimmer.  Another one that's subtle and easy to wear for everyday.

Korres Lip Butter in Wild Rose
Looking deceptively dark in the pan, Wild Rose is actually a sheer, rose-pink with cool blue undertones that offers a delicate wash of colour on the lips.  I also love how it's rose-scented too and I always tend to have at least one (or two) Korres Lip Butters in my bag during winter.

What are your favourite lip colours for winter?
