Review & Swatches: Urban Decay Naked 2 Eyeshadow Palette + Giveaway!

They say good things come to those who wait, and it certainly did in my case.  I lusted after the Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette ever since I saw it launched, but convinced myself that it was just too much of a splurge (considering how many neutral eyeshadows I already have in my possession I was probably right).  Luckily for me, a birthday and my mother's purse intervened, and the rest, as they say, is history.  There's no doubt in my mind that you've already read a million and one reviews of this amazing palette, but this one has a cheeky little giveaway at the end!

Let's just sit back a second and admire that photo above.  Packaged in a luxe bronze metal tin, the Naked 2 palette contains 12 easy to wear neutral shades that run strongly in the flattering taupe/browns/coppers family.  Not only are most of the shades suitable for a quick, one sweep over the lids job, but the combinations for more striking looks are also very exciting.  I love the mix of (mostly) shimmer and matte formulas, as well as the colour spectrum of light to dark shades just enticing you to play with them.  

The eyeshadows are nearly all classic Urban Decay; easy to blend, buttery soft, pigmented and long lasting, with five exclusive new shades being available in this palette only.  Naked 2 also comes with a full size Good Karma double-ended shadow/crease, cruelty free eyeshadow brush (also exclusive to this palette), and a mini Lip Junkie lip Gloss in Naked.  To be honest, whilst the lipgloss is nice, I would have much preferred a mini of one of their Primer Potions instead, but that's my only complaint!

So, onto the shades themselves:-

Foxy 

Pale, matte yellowy/creamy beige which is the sheerest shade of the lot.  It's nice to use in the inner eye corner for a subtle highlight or you could apply it as an easy base to get rid of any discoloration on the eyelids.

Half Baked 

One of UD's classic shades, a frosty golden copper with light gold shimmer.

Bootycall 

A new shade, this is a light pinky beige which would look great for a more prominent inner eye corner highlight.

Chopper

Orangey-copper with lots of shimmer particles.  I find this one to be the most difficult shade to work with as I always experience a fair bit of fallout whenever I try to use it.

Tease

A matte brown meets mauve sort of shade that I was excited to try, but the formula is a little dry so it's one to always use with a primer underneath to really get that colour to 'pop'.

Snakebite 

My favourite, a stunning dark bronze with tiny gold flecks of shimmer running through it.  Incredible for doing a smokey eye with.

 Suspect
Another favourite, a metallic bronze mixed with a warm gold shimmer.  Very pretty on, especially if you have brown eyes like I do.

Pistol

Yet another gorgeous shade for doing a smokey eye with, a dirty shimmery taupe.

Verve
Pale shimmery beige with grey and pink.  Not a huge fan of this shade on its own, but when blended with others, it works much better IMO.

YDK
A warm coppery brown with reddish undertones.  Lots of shimmer and can cause some fallout, but not as much as Chopper.

Busted
A warm shimmery dark brown, love using this for Mila Kunis style smokey brown eye looks.

Blackout
True matte black that can be really layered up, or used wet as a strong eyeliner.

Summary:  My overall favourites shades in the Naked 2 palette are Snakebite, Suspect, Pistol and Busted, though I've found myself experimenting with most of the shades since I got it.  To the question, do you need both Naked palettes?  No, you really don't, but if you're a beauty junkie I know that won't stop you from wanting it if you don't already have it!
