The Body Shop All In One BB Cream in 02 Medium* (25ml, £12, link)
Whenever Summer approaches, I always find myself reaching for much more lighter make-up bases and have a tendency to flit between BB Creams and Tinted Moisturisers, as well as my trusty mineral foundations. Over the last fortnight, I've been trying out this BB Cream from The Body Shop
Packaged in a slim, make-up bag friendly tube, The Body Shop's All-In-One BB Cream promises to deliver a perfect match with its skintone adapting formula. When you squeeze it out, it's a white cream with tiny pigment filled capsules which then 'burst' when you start to blend it together. This kind of formulation has been made popular with lots of highstreet/drugstore brands having similar versions and seems to be one of the trademarks of a lot of the 'western' BB creams.
Ready for some action shots? Here we go!
The shade I have here is 02 Medium and it's slightly more orangey than I was expecting. Luckily, after some blending and buffing, it does seem to adapt to my skintone to be a pretty good match. This shade is definitely a summer one for me that I can only get away with when I'm a bit more tanned! Coverage wise it gives an all over, even light base akin to that of a general tinted moisturiser and has a traditional foundation-like scent to it.
It doesn't have the added benefits of a true BB Cream when it comes to covering up blemishes etc, so you'll need to use a separate concealer with it. The finish is on the dewy side, and it feels very hydrating. I found this a little too greasy for my oily/combination skin when the weather was hot recently, so it's one that I'd only really use on cooler days or towards the end of the season. Dry skintypes will appreciate it much more.
The price is steep for what's effectively a 25ml highstreet tinted moisturiser, so I'd recommend waiting until The Body Shop have one of their frequent offers on before picking it up.
Have you tried this?
Do you prefer lighter bases in summer?

I've always found my experience with BB creams disappointing and have never actually bought a full-sized one yet. I just don't like their limited shade range and coverage! xx
ReplyDeleteThe shade range is incredibly limited, this one's no exception sadly x
DeleteLooks really nice, I'll have to try it out in store to see how I like the feel of it, since from your recommendation it might be a nice formula for my dry skin! Much love x
ReplyDeleteI think it would suit dry skin perfectly! x
DeleteI did a review for the brightest skintone of this cream a while ago. I was a bit dissapointed because it doesn't feel like a real BB cream in my eyes. If you want to check it out : http://berriesinthesnow.blogspot.de/2013/04/review-body-shop-all-in-one-bb-cream-01.html
ReplyDeleteYeah it's really more like a standard tinted moisturizer than a proper BB cream. I find most of the western BB creams are nothing like the Asian ones! Also agree with your review that it's disappointing it doesn't have any SPF x
DeleteHmmm...looks like this would be too orangey for me, but I'm really impressed with the Body Shop's makeup offerings!
ReplyDeleteThey do have some good stuff :)
DeleteI have this and I literally only use half a 5p blob and really buff it in and then set it with powder. They have the vitamin e bb cream and just because I'm a sucker I'll be buying that too LOL xx
ReplyDeleteYeah I was surprised that you only need a small amount each time. The Vitamin E one looks good xx
DeleteI brought mine in 01, seems to have more of a yellow undertone. Still have yet to try it on my face, whoops! x
ReplyDeleteGive it a go! x
DeleteI've yet to try out any of their BB creams but am pleased to see that shade because I think it would match me! On the other hand, I like my finishes matte or less dewy, so powder will be needed! Hope you make it work!
ReplyDeleteYeah I have to powder it down everytime I wear it, especially on the t-zone!
DeleteI found your blog via pinterest and I'm so glad I did! love it!

Cool, thank you! :)
DeleteI've swatched shade 01 of this, and was really keen to try it out, but it was waaaay too dark for me. Such a shame as it looks and sounds like a perfect summer base product xx
ReplyDeleteAngelica [One Little Vice]
I've heard a lot of people say that - such a shame that the shade range is so limited :( xx
DeleteLoving BB creams at the moment! I've just tried a sample of the Keihls BB cream and its gorgeous. Lovely post!

I wanna try that one! x
DeleteWhich powder to use on top of that?
ReplyDeleteI use Rimmel Stay Matte powder or Jurlique Rose Silk Finishing Powder, love them both :)
DeleteThe Barry M Translucent powder is good as well, if I don't want to go too matte x
