Shu Uemura Art Of Hair Volume Maker* (2g, £31, link)
Shu Uemura are well known for their cult eyelash curlers (opinions are always divided on them, but I'm firmly in the loving camp) and I always hear lots of raves about their skincare range. I didn't know they did haircare though until I started to experiment with their Volume Maker.
Shu Uemura's Art Of Hair Volume Maker is 'Invisible Texturizing Powder' which comes in a handbag friendly tube with a built in brush. It aims to help those with fine hair to create volume easily, which is something that I always struggle with, especially at the roots. My hair is very wayward, but it has a habit of getting poofy and frizzy at the sides, whilst staying dismally flat on the top.
I have used a couple of these kinds of products in the past and haven't found any of them very effective for me, and I'm sad to say that this was no exception. Ultimately, I found this finely milled powder much better as a general hair refresher (like a dry shampoo but minus any scent) than as a volumiser.
The good parts about it are that it's super easy to use with the 'one click at a time end' which dispenses the powder into the brush. Once brushed into the roots, the white powder does become invisible meaning you don't suffer from the dreaded white roots look. The powder then absorbs any greasiness easily like a great dry shampoo, but on the creating volume front, it just falls flat. (pun most definitely intended). The price is also obscene for something which only worked as a dry shampoo for me.
Have you tried any of Shu Uemura's Art Of Hair Range?
Any recommendations for volumising powders?

Ooh this sounds great. Perfect to through in your handbag to use when needed throughout the day.
ReplyDeleteIt's the perfect size for handbags :)
DeleteAh such a shame! I've yet to find a good texturising product! xx
ReplyDeleteThey are hard to find! xx
DeleteHow bizarre with the brush, how would that even work putting it through your hair?! I recently bought the VO5 Dry Backcomb Spray which is quite nice and lovely and cheap too!
ReplyDeleteWhen I tried it, you just use the brush to literally brush it through the roots or areas you want volumised - it's a lot easier than it looks! I'll have to check out that backcomb spray, sounds good!
Deletei was hoping this would work because ive heard good things about the hair range but im not keen on it looking like a makeup brush? haha

I almost put it on my face when I opened it up lol. I've seen great reviews of the actual haircare range, but not so much for the styling side x
DeleteWhat a shame it didn't work. So expensive too. I'm always on the look out for volumising products - especially powders. Using Tresemme Backcomb Dust at the moment - so far so good! x
ReplyDeleteOoo I'll have a look at the Tresemme one! x
DeleteI always wondered whether this actually worked well or not so thanks for that! Curiosity satisfied and shall pass on it!
ReplyDeleteGlad it's helpful!
DeleteI was hoping this was actually good but oh well, thanks for the review!! might have to spend my money elsewhere...
ReplyDeleteYeah, would recommend picking something else up!
DeleteOh this sounded so good.. shame it's a bit of a let down :((( xx

Is a shame, had high hopes for it being Shu Uemura and all xx
DeleteHoly crap, that's so expensive and it doesn't even look that big. Thanks for the honest review. Even with nice packaging I could never justify getting a product that expensive that doesn't do anything more than a baby powder would.
