Budget Beauty: Collection Illuminating Touch Concealer Pen in Natural

Collection Illuminating Touch Concealer Pen in Natural / 2 (£4.99, link)

It seems like there are a million and one highstreet/drugstore versions of the much loved Touche Eclat by YSL on the market, and with good reason.  A brightening concealer is an essential, everyday make-up item for me, and they can work all sorts of wonderful magic tricks on the face if used correctly.  I've tried out a lot in the past, but a new one I'm playing with at the moment is Collection's Illuminating Touch Concealer Pen

The packaging of this is cheap and cheerful with a simple turn-click mechanism that you twist at the end to release the product.  When you first use it, you'll need to twist it a couple of times before anything comes out, but eventually you'll start to see the concealer come through on the inbuilt brush.

I chose the shade Natural / 2 (above) which is a good fit for me at the moment, but I know it will be definitely too light for my complexion in the summer months.  For now though, it works really well.   The formula is incredibly similar to Collection's more famous other concealer, their Lasting Perfection Concealer, in the respect that it's quite thick, but the overall texture seems to be thinner and much easier to blend with.

The main difference of course, is that it has those all important 'light diffusing particles', which help to brighten up the face, but there are a lot less of these in the formula than what I was hoping for.  In fact, the concealer is more standard matte than shimmery, which makes the coverage it gives under the eyes really good (though bear in mind it can feel a little drying and does crease slightly), but it doesn't make a huge difference brightness wise.

For a fiver, it's a good coverage concealer as long as you apply it sparingly and blend properly.  But if you're after a proper illuminating concealer, you'll probably want to try something else instead.

Have you tried this?
Do you use it?

  1. I have been wondering about this product, sounds a little less than perfect! Though it does intrigue me as an all over concealer, I always find the lasting perfection a little too heavy!

    Great post!

    1. Yeah it's definitely a good alternative if you find Lasting Perfection too heavy/cakey because the formula is much more manageable, but you still get the coverage :) x

  2. I actually prefer illuminating pens that have more concealing properties -- I don't mind mixing in a highlighter, but it's hard to get more pigment.

    1. I agree, some illuminating concealers are just far too sheer and really don't seem to do anything. Seems better to add a little liquid highlighter in there! x

  3. If this creases slightly on you I'll have no hope with it. Still might give it a try though as the price is so reasonable.

    1. If you set it, it seems to be fine. I find it creases on me as the day wears on, rather than straight away if that helps xx

  6. I actually found that the coverage on this wasn't good, I thought it was a good cheap alternative to the touche eclat (but it was a good few years ago that I bought it, so maybe the formula has changed), I'd never pay as much as YSL charge because the coverage just isn't good enough for my bad under eye circles!

    1. I think it has been reformulated so I'd give it another go because the coverage is really good! Generally speaking, Touche Eclat is a highlighting pen rather than a proper concealer, so it won't cover up under eye circles. It's mostly just for adding some light to your face rather than concealing x

  10. I haven't tried this one but I use a very similar one, Maybelline Dream Lumi concealer is great for under the eyes and works wonders for highlighting as well. xx

    1. I've tried that one but it didn't work for me sadly - I think it's because I can't find the right shade match for me from them :( xx

  13. I bought this concealer just the other day! Me and my friend both bought the same shade, and I am also trying their pressed powder in 03 transparent too! They are both working really well, and the concealer is great for under-eye. I think it is a good price for my budget range too!

  14. I almost picked this up as part of my Boots 3 for 2 haul (they didn't have the other Collection concealer) but I opted for a Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer instead - trying to shake things up a bit haha. I actually prefer non highlighting concealers though so for that reason the formula of this appeals to me more now I've read your review! xx

    1. Yeah it's very similar, main difference is that the formula of this is a little thinner xx
