Hello, I'm back! I had a fantastic time in Frankfurt visiting family, and I really enjoyed taking in all of the sights of the city. I have some photos to share from my trip and thought I'd break them down into two posts. The first part which you can see below is all about the amazing Christmas Market!
Frankfurt's Christmas market (Weihnachtsmarkt) is a popular tourist attraction every year and is a wonderful place to get yourself in the festive mood! In recent years, many of the traders have decided to bring a taste of this Christmas market to Birmingham, but nothing ever beats the real thing if you get the chance to visit it! The market is pure heaven for those wanting to indulge in good food and drink, but it also offers a wide range of christmassy gifts, many of which are handmade.
As you can imagine, the Christmas market gets very busy and crowded, but everyone I spoke to was really friendly and helpful. It's open from around midday to late at night (most stalls close around 10/11pm, but some of the food and drink stands are open later, especially at the weekend) and you can visit it from 26th November - 23rd December. More info here.
Photos: 1. Delicious Schokokuss! These are basically like a chocolate covered teacake but you have wafer at the bottom instead of biscuit. The ones sold at the market were flavoured with all kinds of things like Rum, Amaretto etc and you can get them in GIANT sizes for 2€ each! 2. Enormous chocolate covered pretzels. 3. A market stall all lit up at night. 4. Christmas scented pot pourri. 5. Many of the stalls were like little wooden huts. 6. Gingerbread treats galore. 7. Pretty baubles. 8. Traditional German architecture.
9. Make your own wooden train set. 10. The famous handcrafted Nutcrackers! 11. Lots of cuddly toys. 12. Handmade star lanterns. 13. Amaretto covered nuts anyone? 14. The German fast food favourite, Currywurst! This is a sliced sausage covered in a curry flavoured ketchup, yum! I had mine with pomme frites mit mayo :) 15. There were lots of stalls dedicated to handmade beeswax and honey produce. These festive beeswax candles were very popular. 16. Booze everywhere! 17. Little round drinks huts. 18. Hot Apfelwein (Apple wine), the national drink and absolutely delicious! Mine came with a slice of lemon and a stick of cinnamon.
I'll be posting a giveaway later today, so keep your eyes peeled for that! Part 2 of the Photo Diary will be uploaded tomorrow :)
