Bellapierre Lash Building Mascara in Black (9ml, £19.99, link)

Over the weekend, I had a brief switch up of my everyday make-up items and decided to include this Bellapierre mascara in my new set up.  This is one of many mascaras that have been languishing in a drawer, waiting to be opened up and taken out of their boxes.  To put it into perspective, this particular mascara came to me via a Joliebox back in April, so it was really time that I finally tried it out.

Bellapierre's Lash Building Mascara is packaged in a slim rectangular tube and it sits on a fine line between looking quietly sophisticated or a bit plain and boring.  Whichever way you look at it, you can't fault that classy insignia on the lid which makes it feel a little more like a high-end product.  This is the first make-up item I have tried from natural, mineral based brand and they appear to be quite famous for their loose powders and mineral eyeshadows.

The wand is skinny and super easy to use, allowing you to finely coat each and every lash quickly.  The formula is paraben-free, and mineral based, making it an ideal choice for those looking for a more natural mascara.

Does it build lashes?
Well not really in terms of volumising or thickening - it works with what you have.  But I like this mascara for other reasons.  It's lengthening, defining, nicely pigmented and easy to remove.  However, because it's so easy to remove, it's not waterproof, so it will run if you get caught in the rain etc.  Another slight downside is that the formula is a little wet, so it does take an extra few minutes to fully dry on the lashes - bear this in mind if you're in a rush to get to work in the mornings!

Summary: Despite some of the negatives that I've mentioned, it's still a good, everyday mascara (especially if you have sensitive eyes).  Sadly though, I feel that you're paying a BIG premium for it being paraben-free and natural based, and so I have to say it's overpriced for the results that it delivers.

Have you tried this or any other Bellapierre make-up?

  1. good review - i like my mascaras to give more of a volumised look, so i don't think this one is for me.

  2. Lovely review, I haven't heard of this brand before. I'm the same with my beauty boxes- some products inevitably get put in the 'drawer' never to be seen again!

  3. How much does it cost? My absolute favorite natural, paraben free mascara is from Reviva Labs and it's normally about $5 on most websites! (The outdated ingredients lists online may say parabens, but I've talked to the company and it does not contain any). It's really nice and thick and builds lashes just as well as regular drugstore mascaras.

  4. I've only tried an eyeshadow from Bellapierre but I keep seeing gift sets in TK MAXX so might have to pick one up.
