A vey disappointing Joliebox for November 2012

 Joliebox (£10 per month + P&P, link)

November beauty boxes are usually expected to be a little disappointing.  Think about the marketing for a minute here - the December box absolutely has to be amazing, because you want your subscribers to be happy around Christmas time, and you also don't want them thinking about cancelling their subscription in the new year.  So if you send a slightly meagre box for November, some customers will simply think that the December one will be extra special to make up for it.  If this concept is to be true, then the December Joliebox must be pretty incredible...

In my 'Beauty in the City' themed box I received:-
  • Vav Moisturising & Regenerating Hand Cream (2ml sachet) - I love trying out hand creams so I'm happy to give this one from a French brand a go.  The sachet is tiny though.
  • Jane Iredale Glow Time BB Cream (2ml sachet) - I like Jane Iredale a lot and this new BB cream by them promises to offer full coverage as well as having SP5 25.  Excited to give it a go, although again the sachet amount is small.
  • Yardley Royal Diamond EDT (sample vial) - I hate getting perfume samples in beauty boxes and don't like the scent of this one at all; will be passing it onto my mum.
  • Marvis Strong Mint Toothpaste (10ml) - This smells very, very strong, but I like the cute packaging and it's a handy travel size.
  • Dead Sea Spa Magik Gentle Cleansing Facial Wash (25ml) - Like balance Me, Dead Sea Spa Magik have been in so many beauty boxes before and people are getting fed up of them.  I'm not much of a fan of Dead Sea Spa Magik either, and my past experience with their skincare products has not been a good one!
  • Topicrem Body Glitter 3-D Effect (15ml) - The product I'm most looking forward to trying out is this shimmery body cream from French brand Topicrem which seems ideal to use for the upcoming Christmas party season.
Summary: On the surface, the box doesn't look too terrible.  However, the inclusion of two sachets (counted not as extras), a perfume sample and a non-beauty product is too much for one box I think.  To add further insult to the disappointment, the combined value of the samples is a paltry £5.45 for which subscribers have paid £10 for.  That is not acceptable, so I'm saying au revoir to Joliebox.  I had planned on un-subbing when they become Birchbox (because Birchboxes always seem to be very hit or miss IMO) so at least this way, I'm saving myself some extra ££s and potentially a whole lot of further disappointment.

Did you receive a Joliebox this month?
What did you think?

    1. It's not good. I generally don't mind sachets if they're thrown in as extras, but when they're counted as actual products it's not on! x

  3. This is just such a terrible looking box! I almost resubbed last month as a Christmas treat to myself, really glad I didn't. Some of the boxes in the past have been great, never seen one with so little actual product in it! Don't think I'll be subscribing for the Christmas box. x

    1. Last month's box was amazing which has made this month's extra disappointing IMO. I'd rather save the subscription cost and buy myself something else so I've cancelled x

  4. That is a disappointing box. I've always wondered whether to get a beauty box or not but seem to be seeing more and more disappointing boxes every month :(
Love how honest your post is good job :) xx

    1. A lot of them seem to be going downhill pretty fast with poor value samples and repeat products being included. I personally think that they're struggling to find brands who can supply large amounts of samples and the customer services of some of the beauty boxes is awful to boot :(
Thank you Claudia, honesty is always the best policy as they say! :) xx

  5. Woah, those are such measly samples. You could get them for free with a purchase from many promotions, specially around the holidays!

  9. I must say that when I first subscribed to JolieBox I was very exited but with each month is going worse and worse. This months box is totally not worth the money. Also, in my box the card referenced two items which I did not recieve. I was wondering am I the only one?

    1. I was the same - I've been a subscriber since they were Boudoir Prive and usually loved all of the boxes, but they've been going a bit downhill and I'd rather just spend the monthly fee on something I know I'll like now! I'd email them about that - doesn't sound right to me xx

  10. That's awful! When I first saw the reviews I was planning to send mine back but I suppose I got one of the more decent boxes containing the lipbalm (third month of getting lipbalms! not complaining though) and L'occitane cream. I think it's so unfair we don't all get the same stuff though. The Christmas box had better make up for this!

    1. Yeah the disparity in the value of the boxes that they send out isn't fair at all. I am glad that you got a much better one though! xx

  11. That was a pretty bad box, I unsubscribed a couple of months ago because I just didn't think it was worth it anymore x

    1. Same! I'm glad I never bought into it (even though that was mostly cause I was skint around the time I would have haha) x

    2. This is how I feel about them now. I loved the concept, but they seem to be struggling to recruit new and exciting brands at the moment, so it's like the same handful are being recycled month after month. Not worth the ££s! x

  14. wow - that looks so disappointing :( They aren't going to get new subscribers by sending out boxes like that!

  15. Beauty boxes are so hit and miss, I only subscribe to Amarya but I would be very dissapointed if I got this box. x

    1. Amarya have always been the best for me, though I think I might unsubscribe from them after the December box and try out one of their new personalised boxes instead to see what they're like :) x

  16. I would have a fit if I received a box like that. That's why I cancelled all my subscriptions, these boxes were you don't know what you're getting each month untill you open them or read spoilers send my blood pressure through the roof when it's a bad box or if someone gets something better in their's.

    1. I know, they're so much drama and not worth the ££s these days. Glad I've unsubbed! xx

  17. I had the same as you. It's an utter disgrace they think they can get away with the box of combined value of just £5.
I did write to their customer service asking for it to be rectified. let's see what they come up with. If they don't give me a satisfactory answer, I'll be unsubbing too. They're taking the right royal p***

    1. Do let me know what they say to you - I've emailed them myself to complain and haven't received a response yet, so I imagine they've been going through a lot!

  18. Wow, extra stingy! You'd think they'd at least include products with a value above what subscribers pay monthly!

    1. Exactly - to send someone a box that's worth significantly less than the monthly fee is terrible!

  19. Terrible box :/ I'm so completely over beauty boxes now and have unsubscribed from all. I used to love them but with the exception of the Glossybox this month I have't seen a half decent one in so so long. Total waste of money I think.

  20. This box seems rubbish, I remember I unsubbed after the mess with their 'birthday bow' I didn't receive it for a whole month and I unsubbed from Glossy box for a crap box like this.

  22. I had this box too, BUT the jane iredale bb cream was ripped so there was nothing in it and the toothpaste was missing! Complaint being sent of to Jolie Box as we speak! x

  23. This was a great review :) I was also disappointed this month by the box, (and I did my own review) never thought about the fact that they would do this deliberately to make the December one seem extra amazing though! It will have to be pretty spectacular to make me choose to keep subscribing next year...
