Butter London Lippy Lipgloss in Trout Pout (7.1ml, £14, link)
When Butter London (those lovely people who do the stunning square-bottled nail polishes), launched a range of matching lipglosses earlier this year, I was oh so tempted to splurge and pick some up. But as often happens (sadly), my bank balance wouldn't have been too pleased, so these Lippys went onto my enormous beauty wishlist. So you can imagine how happy I was when I saw Alice selling one on her blog sale, and in the shade I had been most coveting too no less!
The Butter London Lippy that I bought was in the shade Trout Pout, a seemingly bright pinky coral in the tube, but when applied to my lips it comes out as a much more milky pink nude instead (see below). Despite the unexpected colour difference, I really like it because I'm a huge fan of nudes like this anyway. The formula is OK; its relatively non sticky and isn't too shiny which is how I like my lipglosses to be. However, it is one that has a tendency to sink into the lines of the lips, which is odd because the formula is so thick. With this in mind, I think it would look best applied over a lipstick or a lip primer.
Butter London Lippy in Trout Pout, one coat over bare lips
Over a lipstick, this is a very pretty lipgloss and a nice addition to my everyday make-up bag. Would I pay full price for one? No - I appreciate that it's formulated without a lot of chemical nasties such as parabens, petroleum, sulphates, phthalates etc, but it feels like a highstreet/drugstore kind of lipgloss to me, rather than a more higher end one, despite is classy packaging.
One last thing to mention, the scent is like a perfumed watermelon - very strange! I'm not keen on it myself, but it soon fades after 10 minutes or so.
Have you tried any Butter London Lippys?
The pigment looks quite god for a gloss. I love pinks like this for blanking out my bright red lips.

It is nicely pigmented :) xx
DeleteThanks for the mention lovely. I agree with you, its a lovely shade but I wasn't keen on the texture. x
ReplyDeleteYeah the texture is a bit odd, but I really like it layered over a lipstick :) x
DeleteI've not tried any of the lip glosses but I love their handbag holiday cuticle oil - smells of holidays x
ReplyDeleteOooo that sounds lovely! x
DeleteI'm not really a fan of lip glosses as I don't like the stickiness!
ReplyDeleteI really want to try some Butter London nail polishes though!

This one's not too sticky but I know what you mean. Butter London polishes are lovely! x
DeleteIt's a very pretty pink! But I don't get why they think they need to get in the lipgloss biz. Sometimes I wish companies would just stick to making what they're really good at, ya know?
ReplyDeleteI know right?!
DeleteI love the colour but I think you can get similar for less money. The packaging is pretty as well! x

Deletesuch a pretty colour xx
ReplyDeletethanks Sam :) xx
DeleteThat looks great on you! I've been lusting over this exact shade, too
ReplyDeleteThanks Emma! I've seen it on other people and it looks completely different - I think it's because my lips are pretty pigmented to begin with x
DeleteI've seen quite a lot of hype around Butter London, I may have to hunt this one out! Anything that tastes vaguely like watermelon and I'm in! lol

The scent is really weird - I'd recommend having a sniff of one in a shop if you can find it before buying it! xx
DeleteI guess I'll stick to Butter London's polishes! This is a really pretty pinky nude on your lips though :)
ReplyDeleteYeah, I think I will too! Thanks :)
