I came across this independent company a while back called Read The Label via Bow Tied Beauty's blog. They're based in Finchley, London and specialise in hand making natural soaps and other products from 100% pure plant based ingredients. I made a little order via their online shop and purchased two bars of their unrefined raw Shea Butter and a lovely bar of soap.
I have used solid shea butter many times in the past to help me through eczema flare ups because it has such wonderful moisturising properties (it's also ideal for anyone with just general dry skin and can be used as a hair treatment too!). Sadly, it's not so easy to acquire where I live and it's sometimes even harder to find the proper good stuff. Read The Label's Shea Butter is 100% raw and unrefined which means it hasn't gone through the typical 'RBD' process (Refine, Bleach, Deodorise). It's also organic and fairtrade!
When you apply it to the skin, it virtually melts into it and immediately hydrates any dryness that you may have. It can feel a little greasy when you apply it for the first time, but this soon disappears and you find that you only need to use a small amount every time. It doesn't have much of a scent, but I can detect a little 'nuttiness' coming through when I use it all over.
I bought two bars which were both 100gs and cost £4.95 each (link).
I love handmade soaps but I currently have so many in my stash that I need to use up! However, I couldn't resist purchasing one to try out, which was difficult because they all sounded so nice. Eventually, I decided to get the Stress Management soap (link) which has essential oils of Petitgrain, Ylang Ylang and Lavender to help calm you after a hard day at work. It smells lovely and it lathers rather nicely too. All of the soaps from Read The Label are £2.49 a slice and there's a good selection to choose from including the option to buy some in a gift set and a large samples bundle.
I really like this little independent company and I think their minimalistic eco-friendly brown paper packaging with string is really cute too! You can view all of their products online and they also have some stalls around London.
Have you heard of Read The Label before? Do any of their products appeal to you?
P.S The winner of the Dr. Hauschka skincare samples is Tamalyn R! Congrats!
I havent heard of it before, but I am definitely willing to try it out. I actually just stashed up on Fresh soaps (my favourite).
ReplyDeleteLovely!
DeleteTo be honest I'm not really a soap person. For handwash I always use the liquid kind & I always use shower gel rather than soap in the bath or shower. But I love Shea butter & these do look lovely. I didn't know that shea butter can help with eczema -- something else to get the boyfriend to try! He gets terrible flares ups, caused completely by stress, so I am always on the hunt for products which might help him! x
ReplyDeleteI used to never use soap for anything but in the last 2 or 3 years I've really got into the habit of picking some up! I tend to alternate between liquid hand soaps and solid ones, though I still use more shower gel than bars of soap in the bathroom.
DeleteShea butter is really good for calming down eczema and repairing the skin, so it may well help your boyfriend out - just make sure he doesn't have a nut allergy and he's good to go! :) x
These look gorgeous - right up my street! Away to check out the website x
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you'll love them Sandra! They have a lovely range of handmade products :) x
