There are numerous rules that one can follow in order to have great skin, such as drinking lots of water throughout the day and eating plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables etc. Whilst I try to do those, I almost always remember the golden rule of removing make-up before going to bed and doing a proper cleanse in the evening.
Make-up Removal
First things first, I can't write about removing make-up without mentioning my hatred of face-wipes. I don't understand why so many people use them every single day! Most of them are just terrible for your skin, don't remove all of your make-up properly and have a tendency to strip away the natural oils that your face needs, as well as irritating delicate areas like around your eyes. Some brands are better than others thankfully, so if you do insist on using them, pick ones that feel comfortable for your skintype - if they make your face go all blotchy and red, bin them!
For taking off my make-up in the evening I currently use Taaj Himalaya Micellar Water which is super gentle on the skin and easily removes all traces of make-up including waterproof mascara without any need for scrubbing. My skin feels so refreshed and clean afterwards, lovely! I sometimes use a cleansing milk like Purity Conditioning Cleansing Lotion (not pictured) instead which also delivers great results and is ideal for sensitive skin.
Evening Skincare Routine
A usual evening skincare routine for me goes a bit like this:-
Cleanser: After taking off my make-up, I'll use one pump of Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish as directed with a muslin cloth soaked in warm water. I've used C&P for months now and I absolutely love it. It really gets deep down into my pores and cleans everything out.
Toner: To remove any last traces of cleanser, I'll spray Lush Tea Tree Water all over my face and remove any excess residue with a cotton wool round. This is another product I've used for ages and I feel like I get a lot less breakouts when I use it.
Eyes: I then dab a tiny amount of Forest People Luminous Serum for Lips and Eye Contour* underneath my eyes. As it's a very oily serum, you only need to use a little drop each time. I've been using this for about a month now and it's made my undereye area much smoother and a lot less dry.
Face: In summer, I don't like using heavy night creams, because my face just doesn't feel like it needs them, so instead I prefer to use something that feels much lighter. I'm a big fan of face oils and have been enjoying using AD Skin Synergy Nourishing Night Treatment Face Oil. I've gone through about four sample sizes of this and I'm currently on my last one. You only need to use a small amount rubbed between your palms and then gently patted onto the face. It smells lovely and makes my skin feel so soft in the morning.

I love the Liz Earle Hot Cloth Cleanser! It works amazingly on my skin! I am yet to try the Tea Tree Water by Lush, I know lots of people who love it though! :)

Happy to hear you're another C&P fan! Lush Tea Tree Water is great, highly recommend trying it if you have oily skin that's prone to breakouts :) x
Deletei adore the lush tea tree water, i've gone through countless bottles of it :)

Yay! I finished up a big bottle of it last month and haven't had chance to repurchase it yet, so I'm using up my travel size one at the mo :)

I soooooo badly want to find a micellar water I like. I feel like I'm really missing out on something. Maybe I need to try Taaj. I need to start using my AD Skin Synergy sample. I used it once then forgot about it but I can remember it made my skin feel lovely the next morning.

Which ones have you tried? I've heard a lot of bloggers mention that the Taaj one is one of more purifying/refreshing micellar waters on the market so it may work better for you if that's what you're after. I love the AD Skin Synergy oil :) xx
DeleteI would never solely rely on face wipes, I just use them for taking off makeup. I bought No7 face wipes when the vouchers were out and they're the best I've ever used!
ReplyDeleteI really need to invest in a toner, I like the sound of the Lush one!x
That's the best way to use them I think, it just bugs me when people use just wipes and nothing else!
DeleteThe Lush Tea Tree Water is fab, I've tried their other toners too and they're all really good :) x
I admire your dedication to a skincare routine! I am far to lazy for all that at night time! I always, always, always remove my make-up though.
ReplyDeleteI read an interview with Keira Knightly a while ago and she was asked how she got rid of her acne. She said she stopped using so much sh*t on her face and now just washes it at night and in the morning. I've taken her lead & my skin has never been better! x
Thanks! I have quite long days with commuting and work in general, so I like the whole ritual of removing all the day's grime and having my skin feel all clean again! I agree, if you use way too many products on a regular basis you can really clog up your skin and make it worse if you already have skin problems x
DeleteAhh I love the Taaj Micellar water. I bought a Caudalie when it ran out but I think it broke me out so I'm scared to use it again :(
ReplyDeleteYeah I've had some breakout issues with some Caudalie products myself :( I do love the Taaj though! x
DeleteI agree about makeup wipes! I fin if I use them instead of a micellar cleanser to remove makeup, the skin around my eyes gets irritated. That's why I use micellar cleansers now. Lovely products Evelyn! No wonder your skin is so gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I know, micellar waters are SO much better for your skin than face wipes!
DeleteI actually did use the Liz Earle cleanser a couple of years ago but then my skin started reacting to it for some reason. Love the look of the the synergy night oil though and have wanted to try Taaj Micellar water for a while now :) xx
ReplyDeleteDid you react to C&P because of the cocoa butter in it? I know that that can cause some skin sensitivity issues for people. The AD Synergy oil and Taaj water are both fab :) xx
DeleteI am almost out of my Caudalie Beauty Water so I'm on the market for a new toner type product & as it's pay day tomorrow I think a trip to Lush is in order! I'll either pick up the tea tree or the rose one :) I'd also love the try the Liz Earle C&P but I am using my Boots hot cloth cleanser for the moment & it is pretty good! Great post :)
ReplyDeleteBoth of those Lush toners are great, you won't be disappointed with either one! :)
DeleteI've heard good things about that Boots cleanser :)
Unfortunately the Taaj water stings my eyes so I can only use it to remove my face make up... It's lovely, I like the smell too.
ReplyDeleteI need to try the forest people eye serum.. Sounds fab!! Xx
Oh no! That's such a shame :(
DeleteThe Forest People eye serum is great and that bottle is going to last forever because you only use the tiniest drop each time :) xx
Yay! So glad that someone else is loving the Taaj Water. It is amazing and one of my all time favourite beauty products! xxo
ReplyDeleteI love it! I'm on my last sample size bottle at the mo (managed to pick up a few extras on blog sales etc), but I can definitely see myself buying the full size soon :) xx
Deletehello! i like your blog! Im following you now on GFC and bloglovin! if you like my blog, follow me back please.

thanks Patti! will check yours out :) xx
DeleteThe lush tea tree water sounds great, I've been wanting a kind of toning/ refreshing spritz all summer after the Caudalie hype :)

I love the Caudalie Beauty Elixir but it's SO pricey, so I prefer buying the Lush one instead which I think is just as good :) x
DeleteThe Lush Tea Tree toner is my new favourite product. Wasn't sure it was doing anything at first but now I hate skipping it just in case I get spots! (: xx
ReplyDeleteIt's great isn't it?! I seem to get a lot less breakouts when I use it :)
DeleteOmg I hate face wipes too, they just feel like they strip my face! xxx

I know, I can't stand them! xxx
