Eyebrows are funny things aren't they? They define and frame your face, but they can be so high maintenance. Here's how I keep mine in check and what I use to define them further:-
I fill in my brows in three different ways, all of which can be used to create natural looking, well groomed eyebrows:-
Using Eyeshadow
Filling them in with eyeshadow can create a very natural look, ideal for those who just want to make them look slightly thicker. The key here is to pick a shade that matches your natural brow colour. Once you've got the right shade for you, use a a slanted eyebrow or eyeliner brush, dip it into the eyeshadow and fill in your brows where needed using short, soft strokes.
I mainly use the dark brown shade in the Sleek Storm Eyeshadow Palette and an Ecotools Eyebrow Brush.
Using Ink
There's a whole range of felt tip pen style applicators that are designed for using on your eyebrows. The ink in these is usually easy to work with, but gives a much more defined finish that powder does. Again, finding a shade that matches you helps to make your brows look much more natural when you use one of these pens. One I have been using for a while has been A La Carte Brow Ink which I received in a Carmine box, but there's a much more affordable one from GOSH which is a great dupe.
Using A Pencil
Probably the most widely used method is simply using an eyebrow pencil. Like brow ink, you can get much more accurate definition using a pencil, but make sure that you use it in short, soft strokes, otherwise you'll end up with an unnatural, too harsh line. I have used one from Korres for years and it stays put all day.
To Shape and Set
To add a finishing groomed look, I brush mine through very lightly with a brow comb. You can buy all sorts of brow palettes that feature a setting gel, but I find using a cheap clear mascara like this one from MUA, keeps them in place all day and works just fine.
I also keep mine groomed with a simple weekly tweezing session (I always use my trusty Tweezermans which really are the best tweezers I have tried).
Do you define your eyebrows or leave them au naturel?
I've been using the elf eyebrow kit and I love it! I need a new brow gel though, so I'll definitely take a look at the MUA one :-) x

The MUA one is great, it's just a basic clear mascara but it does the job :) x
DeleteI recently bought some eyebrow gel at blink brow bar in selfridges. It is ok, but a bit watery for my liking. I will have to see if I can find an MUA clear mascara instead. :)
ReplyDeleteI've had the same problem with other eyebrow gels being watery. The MUA clear mascara works much better for me :)
DeleteAhh, this is such a helpful post! Personally, I always stick to my trusty eyebrow pencil, just out of habit than anything else - I'll definitely be looking into the eyebrow brush you recommended to use with some eyeshadow, though! xx
ReplyDeleteGlad you found it helpful! I'd say 7 out of 10 times I use my Korres pencil :)
DeleteLet me know what you think if you try out the Ecotools Eyebrow brush! xx
Thanks for the great post, I've been looking for advice for weeks! I'm loving the MUA mascara and eyeshadow combo but I've never looked into felt liners before, guess I'm too scared of a strict line, I'm rubbish at symmetry!

Brow ink pens can be a little tricky to use at first but it's just a matter of trial and error really! xx
DeleteI really wanna try a ink-thing to do my eyebrows, so I might try the gosh one... Love your blog aswell, xo <3
ReplyDeleteThanks Kat! Let me know what you think if you try the Gosh pen, I'll probably be buying that when the A La Carte one runs out :) x
DeleteGreat post hun :) I've never actually used ink before but this is something that sounds really interesting. I normally just float between my Mac and Avon brow pencil lol.

DeleteAt the moment I go au naturel but I have been thinking about using something extra, so thanks for the post, really helpful! :-) x
ReplyDeleteGlad you found it helpful! :) x
DeleteI only recently started to define my brows and I use the Rimmel eyebrow pencil in dark brown and also the dark brown eyeshadow from the Sleek storm palette. I purchased the Sleek brow kit in dark at the weekend so i'm just waiting for that to arrive also, cant wait! I'm obsessed with eyebrows now.
ReplyDeleteThey make a big difference to how your whole face looks don't they? I never used to fill mine in for years, but recently I've started to experiment a bit more and I like the results :)
DeleteI use Benefit BrowZings. I've tried pencils a few times but just cant get a hang of it and find it really hard to find a pencil that matches.

Is the BrowZings really good? Have always been tempted to try it out xx
DeleteI've been using the a la carte brow pen with the MUA clear mascara on top and before that the ELF eyebrow kit but recently I bought the ELF treat & tame and I AM IN LOVE! It does an amazing job and is just as easy as popping on some clear brow gel!New follower :) x
