Tried & Tested: Liz Earle Gentle Face Exfoliator

Monday, 23 April 2012

Since switching the majority of my skincare routine to mostly Liz Earle products, my skin has been noticeably better in general, but this week my face decided to have a mini breakout.  Argh!  So I've been reaching for Liz Earle's Gentle Face Exfoliator* to see if it would help to clear things up a bit.  I often find that minor blemishes soon disappear after I use a good exfoliator a few times, I don't know if that works for anyone else's skin, but it certainly does for mine.

The Gentle Face Exfoliator contains naturally active ingredients and aims to draw out impurities whilst getting rid of dead skin cells.  It does state that it's not suitable for sensitive skin, but my skin borders on sensitive most of the time and I didn't have any problems using this.  If you have very sensitive skin, I'd recommend getting a trial size/sample first to see if it's OK for you.

It's packaged in the same kind of tube that Cleanse & Polish comes in and has the same handy pump that dispenses just the right amount of product to do your whole face with.  Formula wise, this reminds me EXACTLY of Cleanse & Polish (has the same lovely menthol scent, similar thickness etc), but with tiny jojoba beads added (see photo closeup below).  To use, you can either use it after your cleanser, mix a bit with your cleanser, or use it alone.  I tried it with Cleanse & Polish and thought it was largely unnecessary that way, so I use it alone now and it works really well for me.  My face is left feeling deeply cleansed and exfoliated, and I don't get any tight or dry feeling afterwards.  My face just feels smooth and looks brighter.  I've used it about four times so far in two weeks and it has helped to minimise some of the little blemishes I sometimes get on my chin.

How does this compare to my current holy grail exfoliator from Purity?  Well I view the Purity one as being great for maintenance and being an excellent budget buy.  When my skin is behaving itself, I don't need to use anything else.  But when it starts to throw tantrums, I think I'll definitely be reaching for this Liz Earle Gentle Face Exfoliator because it really gets deep down into the skin and helps to clear everything up, whilst making it feel lovely and smooth on the surface.

Have you tried this? What are your favourite face exfoliators?

*PR sample, opinions are 100% honest and my own as always.

    1. I never used to like menthol scented stuff but since using Cleanse & Polish, it's really grown on me. One of my friends is currently OBSESSED with Nick Lowe products so I'll have a sneak peek in her bathroom and see if she has that scrub :) x

  5. I’ve heard so many good things about Liz Earle and I really want to try some of the more popular products for myself. I am pretty clueless about skin care, I think that products in general don’t work as much for me (so long as I’m not using something that’s clearly detrimental). My skin reacts more to my diet, like if I’ve been binging on deep fried, fatty foods and eating too much sugar :p The exfoliator I’m using now is just some cheap one from ALDI. This one looks really nice though, and it’s good to hear it’s been effective for you to really deeply cleanse your skin.

    1. I agree, diet plays a much bigger role than people might think and it definitely shows up on your face a lot of the time. My skin reacts badly if I overindulge on junk food and sweet stuff :(

  6. I have dry skin and so I use it every day and maybe miss a day in between if my skin is behaving. This weather is confusing and so my skin is always flaky and dry. This really is good for daily use and my skin is sensitive too but I find that its gental (as it says in the name hahaha) so yeah really happy with this.

    Great review

    1. Thanks! You can buy it a range of sizes from the Liz Earle website:- 15ml £5.25, 50ml £9.50, 70ml £13.50. The one I have is the 70ml which has a pump like Cleanse & Polish, whilst the smaller ones are tubes. Hope that helps! xx

  8. This sounds really nice! I've tried quite a few things from the Liz Earle range and got on well with them, so I might give this a go. I haven't actually used an exfoliator like this one for a little while, as I tend to stick with chemical ones, which seem to work quite well. I do love the deep clean feeling you get after using these scrubby type one's, though!
